Fabulous Florence and Charleston South Carolina
Congregation Beth Israel in Florence SC proved to be a warm and welcoming place for Lisa to share a weekend of her Soulful Shabbat, Yoga Shalom and Broadway Show. Dyan and Alex Cohen put the weekend together and made everything so special. Although a small congregation the community is filled with vibrancy and history which filled every moment with poignancy and love. Next Lisa headed to Charleston SC and the historic KKBE Congregation for a Choral Workshop. Many thanks to Heidi Kunitz-Levy for putting together a spectacular afternoon of music and friendship.
Florida Tour 2014
Beautiful people, beautiful weather and many soulful moments of sharing made Lisa's 2014 Florida tour memorable. It included stops at Temple Judea of Coral Gables, Beth Am and Beit Breira Samu-el in Miami, Kol Ami Emanu-el In Plantation and Temple Israel of Brevard in Melbourne. Kudos to colleagues and friends who made everything possible and to ALL of the choirs, bands, practitioners, friends and congregants who participated with full hearts. MLK 2014 Makes Community Happen
Spirits soared as Cantor Lisa joined with Jazz Vocalist Lori Williams and the Wilson Sr. High School Choir, Washington Revel Jubilee Voices, Tony and DeJuana Small, Gospel superstar Rasheda Jolley, members of the Shir Shalom, TSYouth and Teen Choirs and our own Ruach Band to join our community in song and prayer. Pastor Joe Daniels brought his choir and band under the direction of Curtis Harrington to join in the Shabbat observance and featured the music from Lisa's Soulful Shabbat Ruach Service. This Interfaith Program was made possible by the Temple Shalom WRJ Sisterhood and MRJ Brotherhood as well as the Jewish Chautauqua Society - Men of Reform Judaism Interfaith Grant.
Transformational OHALAH 2014
The experience of being with colleagues and friends at the 2014 OHALAH Conference in Broomfield CO was overwhelming. From induction into the Aleph Rabbinic Pastoral Program, words of wisdom from Reb Zalman, to inspirational worship and thought provoking workshops, every moment was transformative, holy and memorable. Thank you to those who rose before sunrise to share Yoga Shalom Shacharit.
The URJ Biennial was packed with highlights including connecting with old friends and making new ones. Lisa shared Yoga Shalom with both URJ and WRJ attendees, performed on the BAM stage with friends Mikey Pauker, Mattan Klein and amazing artists Sam Glaser, Todd Herzog and Julie Silver from the Sowing Seeds CD as well as sharing a song at the ARZA Mattan Klein Gas Lamp late night session. The fun continued when Lisa's songs Hallelu-Behold How Good and Grant Peace were featured at the Transcontinental Choral Workshop, and she did two book signings, one for the WRJ Centennial Book where four of her poems appear and one for Yoga Shalom, which was featured at the URJ Bookstore. The highlight of the Biennial was the Friday Night Shabbat Song Session sharing the stage with the best and brightest of our Reform movement. Everyone who attended the Conference received a FREE copy of the collaborative CD Sowing Seeds which got a lot of buzz as did the new Yoga Shalom Leaders Guide. Until Orlando, blessings to one and all for a spectacular Biennial.
Julie Silver Packs the Pews
Lisa was joined by the great singer songwriter Julie Silver this past Shabbat as Julie inspired members of the TSYouth, Ruach Teen and Shir Shalom Adult Choirs along with a packed house at Temple Shalom! Thanks Julie for making our prayers and our worship so memorable and so special.
Finally, the long wait is over, after almost two years of work. Lisa's newest release "Sowing Seeds" features the hip Israeli Jazz Band Seeds of Sun led by Mattan Klein, who turned some of her old hits and new favorites into jazz covers. Guests on the album include: Hannah Spiro, Sam Glaser, Julie Silver, Todd Herzog, Lori Williams, Doug Cotler, Peri Smilow, Gerard Edery, Noah Aronson and Mikey Pauker, who interpreted the tunes and turned them into instant classics. Dave Nachmanoff is featured on guitars and backup vocals courtesy of some very dedicated Youth and Teen Choir singers of Temple Shalom. This is a true collaborative effort and a perfect gift for the holidays.
Aleph KALLAH 2013
Lisa was honored to attend her first ever Aleph KALLAH in Rindge New Hampshire where she shared Yoga Shalom to full classes in the Davennen program, performed a few songs in the Coffee House show and presented The Jewish Gospel Experience Concert to a standing room only crowd!
